Happy Monday 💕
LBC is hosting a very special Masterclass in the run up to our Adult Ballet Summer Intensive! 🥰 A big focus of our intensive is supporting dancers to experience ballet in more contemporary ways. For instance, we have an Intermediate workshop teaching original and award winning works by Valentino Zucchetti, dancer and choreographer with The Royal Ballet. Isabela Coracy, Senior Artist with Ballet Black, will also host a contemporary ballet all-levels class. And our final session with Julia will be inspired by Elite Syncopations, and allows freedom for us to incorporate our own ideas and choreo too!
Some of this will be new to many of you and so I thought it may be nice for LBC to organise an introductory workshop, helping you all to feel a little bit more familiar and comfortable with contemporary ballet. Come along to explore how a typical class is structured and led. It’s ok if you’ve never explored contemporary ballet before - that’s the whole point 😉
One of the reasons LBC is keen to move more in this direction going forward is because it allows more scope and freedom in taking inspiration from a wider array of artists and choreographers. We can appreciate and celebrate more than just the traditional, classical works and begin to incorporate our own ideas too. Diversifying our practice also helps dancers become more dynamic, musical, creative and lyrical in their movement exploration too. I’m excited for us all to branch into new things in the months to come!
It’s also an absolute pleasure to learn from Alice Ladlier in this Masterclass. Swipe to find out a little bit more about her, including her improvisation work with female members of the Royal Ballet!
Masterclass level: Improvers +
Price: £30
See you there!!
Our new Improvers class 🥳
Tuesdays, 6.45-8pm
This Tuesday, Giovanna taught us all about pas de bourrees and pas de basque. Make sure to practice these steps as we will keep adding to them each week! :)
Beautiful Beginners in our Technique class 💕.
This is our class most suited to absolute beginners or those very new to ballet. Learn movements and steps right from the basics up.
All throughout May we are focusing on:
1. Chasses
2. Pas de bourrees
3. Passé Relevé
4. Pirouettes en dehor
Every Thursday, 8.15-9.15pm with @gioh_lamboglia

The process never gets less challenging, we just learn to enjoy it more 😍 It’s so rewarding to do hard things and persevere. A skill ballet forces you to develop again and again 😅
I always loveeee watching classes but this moment of this class was special. Such beautiful music and everyone concentrating but finding moments to smile too. Beautiful job everybody 😍
Please join me in congratulating our Beginners Variation students. This performance is so impressive: it’s co-ordinated, musical, clean andddd performed from memory 😍
I’ve been writing a lot over the last few weeks about the imporance of developing your ballet terminology, a sense of direction and the ability to memorise and link steps together. This is a brilliant example of how important a role these things play in our ability to progress. Learning to actually piece movements together into longer sequences or choreography is something LBC develops right from the beginning of your ballet journey and this is very intentional.
This is an investment in your ability to learn, which is as important as learning movements or steps in and of themselves. Adults do not come into the ballet studio like a blank slate in the same way as children. This is often framed as a disadvantage (pre-existing movement patterns, injuries etc), BUT, it is also our secret superpower! Even though it may be unlinked to ballet, by the time we are adults, we are experienced learners! Many of us have improved our language based learning skills and our memories through years of schooling and exams and other hobbies. Adult ballet schools should take advantage of this and shape their teaching methodology around this pre-existing and transferable skillset!
We do a disservice to adult ballet students when we simply replicate teaching methodologies centred around children. Why aren’t we utilising the strengths people are already walking into the studio with?!
I know it feels natural to focus most on how we execute the movement. We are unbothered about whether we know the vocabulary or if we are copying or not, we usually opt for more tangible results. But we should care about these because they ultimately define our progression.
There are loads of other ways we can shape our teaching methodology around the specific needs, strengths and challenges of adult ballet students, but I’ll leave it here for today 😂
Schools: Emphasise vocab learning and memory
Beginners: Consider these as important as your ability to execute a step well. They matter more with time!

Wasn’t sure how people were going to receive this variation, I chose it because one of the LBC OG’s has been mentioning it since 2019 🤣. Anyway, turns out that a lot of other people are excited for it too, so thanks Marjorie!!
I love this variation for all the reasons I’ve described in the slides. It truly is unique and challenging in its own way. It’s a more doable one, so for those wanting to try out Intermediate - this is a good month.
Everyone has also been working so hard on their pointe work for almost 6 months now, so for those of you whom are ready and taking regular pointe classes, I hope this month will give you an opportunity to use them - but safety first :)
💕
Ayumi as Diana in March performance week. Every single person truly nailed this variation 😍
